  • santa barbara on a budget
    By ben_langston, 07/10/08
SB doesn't have to be as expensive as you might think. Rent a home through VRBO.com. Eat GREAT food on Milpas St. Stop at Trader Joe's and do a picnic on the beach. Head up the beach from State street & watch the sunset from the cliffs. Catch a trolley. Stroll the wharf just to listen to the waves. Head up the mountain for a ...

  • BAD experience at SB beach
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/30/08
I thought SB is a beautiful and safe place to enjoy the beach through the weekend, but it was wrong since last weekend!! Me and my friends were enjoying biking alone the coast line last weekend, when we passing through a skateboard park, some damn person attacked us unfriendly by using water balls. That was hurt and rude. We were trying to ...

  • Who creates these top ten lists???
It makes me laugh when I see Santa Barbara beaches listed in a top beaches list. I've lived in California my whole life and in Santa Barbara the past few years and the beaches here are by no means tops!!! Once you get past all the homeless people, you have to deal with all the tar in the sand, and the bacteria in the water! If the list is only ...

  • Dining review: Ruth's Chris
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/09/08
It has been my experience in California that dining service is average to poor, and ordering a steak cooked well-done is a bad idea. Here is what happens with little variation: we order “extra-well-done, no red”, the steak arrives and the server departs without inquiring as to its adequacy. The steak is cut open and red juices seep out ...

  • A great get-away town
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 03/26/07
Just returned from a beautiful and too short weekend getaway in SB with my girlfriend. Yes, SB is a beautiful place, even though most people get the geography wrong - the ocean is to the south, the mountains to the north, and it is more west than north of LA. No matter. It is a city with just a few urban ills, some homelessness and pandhandling, ...

  • Love it and lived there!!!
    By Angie Guzman, 03/15/07
I love SB!! To bad it is to expense to live there. It is so peaceful and beautiful.
I love the nightlife too. You can go bar to bar and them at the end of the night walk home or take a cab. Love the weather.

  • Gotta love it
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/03/06
Where else can you experience the beauty and atmosphere of the mediterranean on US soil? I am fortunate enough to live here and have mixed emotions about touting the beauty of this area, it's so wonderful I want to pull the gate closed behind me! If you don't have the means to travel the world, spend a few peaceful days in SB, enjoy the ...

  • Great place, medicore surf
    By jeff a, 06/02/06
Since Yahoo! wanted to include surf as a measure of what makes a beach great. Santa Barbara doesn't deserve to be in 8th spot. The surf is medicore at best. You have to travel south of SB to Rincon or north of SB to El Capitan. SB itself is not a great surf spot. They should substitute San Diego in SB's place.

  • More like Worst Beaches in the World
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/20/06
We moved here from New York City 12 years ago. Santa Barbara is a fantastic place! It's beautiful, the people are lovely and it's a wonderful place to raise children. It's feels very safe. The weather is fabulous most of the time (a pretty even 70's throughout the year, although it does get cold at night). We are thrilled to ...

  • Beautiful Expensive Little City
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/11/06
I live 45 min. south of Santa Barbara in Ventura County. I love it for it's natural beauty, good restaurants, and good shopping.

But it isn't cheap, and unless you like looking at oil rigs, I would definitely not say it has one of the top 10 beaches in the US.

For a beautiful Southern California beach, head south to Malibu (also expensive but no oil rigs). Malibu has a variety of beaches (from busy to relatively secluded)
