My wife and I tried this restaurant out after hearing many Richmonders rave about it. They probably haven't eaten at restaurants like Rao's and Bartolottas. Maybe it is a little like comparing oranges and apples but
it was one of the worst "italian" meals I have ever had. The best thing there (the only I think I could stomach) ...

As You first walk up to Mama's Zu's you can't tell if it is a run down hole in the wall bar, some sort of store, or a hole in the wall resturant, but as u walk closer and notice the line out the door, it gives you ur first inclanation that the food must be good. As u pull on the ragged screen door you hear a loud screech telling you ...

Awful...poor service, cracked dinnerware, no menu, ambiance of a run down speakeasy...then to find out at the end of the meal, they only take AMEX or cash

  • Incredible, everyone loves the food
    By Adam G, 08/05/07
The service is not always the best, but if you go in there and have patience, you will be rewarded by the best Italian food and fresh fish that you can find within several states. Get there around 6 pm (which I believe is opening time on fri-sun) and you will be seated and will avoid the wait. Ambience and service are low rated, but it is still ...

  • I thought I was back home
    By Patricia R, 06/29/07
I am originally from NJ and know good Italian food, this was delicious, the bread was even better. I had white clam sauce and linguine, it was enough for two hearty portions and the price was very good. I definitely will be going back and when family visits, I will be taking them to Mamma Zu's.

This is my favorite restaurant in Richmond. YUM! Delicious food with lots of garlic. Italian/seafood/pastas. You can't go wrong here- cash or checks only though.

  • Definitely one of my faves in Richmond.

Took a long time to get a seat, but well worth it. We got to drink a bottle of wine while we waited. Dimly lit. Looks like a busy little place in italy. Tuna Steak was excellent, Veggie Lasagna was great, Tiramisu was orgasmic. For reals.

  • Nothing to complain about
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/18/07
Having heard horror stories about the service here, I was shocked to find that my waitress was actually quite good. The Veal Marsala was absolutely delicious. If you order any of the pasta dishes, you will be overwhelmed by them. They are good, but you should plan to share. The menu is difficult to decipher. The portions are so large that you are best off just getting one dish. Most of the entrees come with a side of pasta anyway.

  • Rude
    By critterdoc1, 10/15/06
Food ok if you get that far. Staff is so surley to the point of being rude. They act like they don't want you there. That they are doing you a favor to seat you and this comes from 4 tries to have a good experience. Never again. The conditions are poor and dirty, with poor ambiance, by the way

  • What a dive, but...
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/29/06
You'd miss it if you didn't know where it was. Then again, you could always just follow the smell of garlic that permeates Oregon Hill. The door might fall off the hinges at any time. The floor is dirty. The chairs don't match. You may or may not get silverware. The service sucks. But OH is the food delicious! And what an ...
